Just as I was about to stop cursing at reality and cease using my pessimistic mindset to approach and think things over, I stumbled upon this article while Facebook-ing and my ever curious strait brought my finger towards that link, clicked it and voila! This brought me to tears. Sigh. This world, having as many as 6 billion human beings in it, is still lacking of humanity. Oh the irony!
For those who aren't interested in reading said article, I'll summarize it for you. There's this business whereby people sell bear's bile as a traditional Chinese medicine. And simple economics tell us: if there's a demand, there will be a supply. So, how do they extract bile from bears? Easy, they insert a metal pipe into the bear's stomach and let the bile drip. The whole procedure is done without the use of anesthetics to save cost. It is excruciatingly painful. Just imagine yourself getting an abdominal surgery sans painkillers/anesthetics. Will you be terrified? What would you do? You can't possibly imagine the pain, can you? The pain was too much to bear that the bears tried to commit suicide and in order to stop them from doing so, people force these poor bears to wear an iron vest which restricts its movements. They are immured in tiny cages, no place to even move a limb. Worse, these bears have to go through this hellish procedure everyday for around 20 years. These "bear farms" are like a living hell for bears. Really.
I'm not done. The writer had witnessed a mother bear killing her cub in one of the bear farms. The cub had to go through some surgery and the captivated mother bear was nearby. With great feat, the mother bear escaped from her cage and tried her best to free her cub...but she failed. So, as a mother who knew her child would be living the life she'd been living, a life of having to have body fluids extracted from your gall bladder everyday for years, having to put up with great pain everyday for the rest of her life, heck, it isn't even a life at all! The mother bear decided to kill her cub and then she commits suicide. Tragic.
Bear bile which is believed to be able to cure minor ailments such as fever, sore eyes and decrease heatiness can be EASILY replaced with cheap herbs and pils! Why the unnecessary cruelty? This is really redundant. Needless! Can humans be anymore stupider? Has greed blinded your humanity?! As morbid as I am, I cannot stand animal cruelty. This is sick, this is bad, this is sinful.
End.
On a much brighter note, I've sent out a mail to volunteer for Zoo Negara! I hope they would take me in. I'm really eager to do work in a zoo. (Even if it's shoving poop. I'm fine.) So fingers crossed. I'm begging for this job more than a job that pays at least RM1.5k monthly. Which, I'm still waiting for the lady to call and set a date for the interview. I am not fond of attending interviews. The word itself intimidates me.
Now, here's a picture of two cute bears.

I feel so ashamed for being a Chinese.
